Gia Magazine is a student-run publication that centers the voices of queer and trans students of color in order to celebrate the community’s creative power. Lovingly named after one of the most impactful queer/trans advocates in Berkeley history, Gia Magazine honors the legacy of Juniperangelica “Gia” Cordova. During her time at UC Berkeley, Gia served as an ASUC senator as well as an activist who created policy supporting the wellness of students, established commissions overseeing the impact of campus security on marginalized communities, and built coalitions of students as a community organizer. Since graduating from the university, Gia has continued to advocate for the lives and wellbeing of queer/trans folks and womxn of color on a regional and national level. In paying homage to Gia, this publication strives to institutionalize and forever uphold her vital legacy of courage, activism, and unapologetic authenticity.
